Week #10- Assignment 3

QRI5 and DIBELS are both great assessment tools to help educators get a clear understanding of how well their students are doing. In addition, students can receive the proper help and intervention they need based on the results of the assessment.

QRI5 is an individually administered informal reading assessment strategy which is designed to provide information on how well a student is reading. It uses graded word lists and passages. The assessment is used to help assess students reading levels and where they are up to in their reading skills. DIBELS is a form of assessment that helps educators understand where students are holding in their literacy skills. It focuses on phonemic awareness, phonic skills, fluency and comprehension. It includes benchmarks, which teachers can use to assess students to see if they are progressing and meeting appropriate literacy goals.

There are many differences between the two assessment strategies. First of all, QRI5 is a lengthier process of assessment within different aspects and parts to it, while DIBELS is a short assessment that can be done many times throughout the year. Additionally, QRI5 focuses on fluency and comprehension, while DIBELS focuses on many different literacy skills such as phonemic awareness and word recognition. Lastly, QRI5 is an informal assessment and can be modified for all students on all grade levels and DIBELS is for elementary students only.

All in all, both of these are great forms of assessments that help teachers get a clear understanding of their students' strengths and weaknesses. Based on the results received from these assessments, educators can create lessons that are catered to students' individual needs and will help them succeed to their fullest potentials!
